Originally for the [community profile] isurrendered meme (to make a fake TV show from a prompt), via this prompt from JJPOR: "It's the morning after the revolution before. The Evil Empire has fallen; the Plucky Rebels won against impossible odds, as Plucky Rebels tend to do. Now they've just got to deal with the messy aftermath and, you know, actually govern the place. Preferably without becoming like the regime they've just defeated." And then it escaped into being fic, as these things do.

HEROES OF THE REVOLUTION

Colonel Seaton/Arran has just defeated the dictator Hallam and become the new Head of State. He needs to establish a more democratic government and not lose power to his enemies in the meantime. Anna/Catherine Miller is one of his closest supporters and she has plenty of ideas about how they're going to do that - the first is getting politician Charles Terrell on board as Prime Minister. It's not what Charles had in mind. Leader of the opposition Edward Woodfield is outwardly supportive of the fledgeling government and in reality scheming for its downfall (but at the right moment), though some members of his own party, especially his deputy John Neville, would prefer more violent action. The first year is going to be hard, and everyone's got some huge changes to get used to and the recent violent events (and the decades-long 'national emergency') means nobody's without some sort of skeleton lurking in the closet...

(Main 'canon' = 1991-2 and the immediate aftermath of the fall of the previous regime and establishment of the new government. Also 1959-61 - the dictator Hallam's rise to power.)
