I haven't talked much about Doctor Who, because I tend to enjoy it and find that enjoyment often diminished by discussion, especially in circles that are more negative about Twelve and Steven Moffat than my heart will ever be, but I have indeed been watching and enjoying and loved the finale very much. Anyway, here are some related fanworks I have also enjoyed:

[personal profile] purplefringe has already made a Bill fanvid & it is a truly lovely thing, you will be unsurprised to hear.

[personal profile] selenay has been writing a series of Bill episode tags (for the first few eps, so far) and they're just great. I was trying to think which one in particular to rec, but, really, they're all great.

And, via [personal profile] eve11, who clearly has the best taste in fic:

Love, That Loosener of Limbs by amatalefay (G, 253 words. Bill Potts/Sappho, Twelve.)

“Like, finally here's a poem that isn't just some bloke whining about how a beautiful girl won’t give him sex, and it's basically ‘sweet mother, I’m too gay to do my chores, blame Aphrodite’. Like, honestly? Most relatable thing I’ve read in years.”

Bill meets Sappho.

Tiny but perfect. <3

And The Last Age Should Show Your Heart by Quanna. (G, 1854 words. Missy, brief mentions/cameos of others.)

The Doctor saves the Master, one final time, and gives her the universe to look after in his place.

A post 'the Doctor Falls' AU in which the Doctor dies, and the Master goes on; without hope, without witness, without reward.

What it says; really clever and sharp and a great thing to read following The Doctor Falls.

(I hope you can tell that this is not the sort of post where you tell me things you dislike about DW. If that's what you'd like to do, I recommend instead going to [community profile] who_at_50 instead which is great for proper discussion, squee, grumbling and all the usual sorts of reactions. Consider that my final rec for the day. ;-p)

I don't have time to go through all of these just now, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the finale. Since I commented a few days ago when I was really grumpy about the penultimate episode, I thought you might like to hear that the finale did help a lot.

After the ending of the second-to-last episode, I honestly couldn't foresee any outcome besides a BS heroic sacrifice. They'd try to make it seem like Bill was going out on her own terms, but... no. Especially with Simm!Master there, I was really feeling like I'd just run around in a giant circle from 2007. Was the actual ending an ass-pull? Maybe, but I was too relieved at having been proved wrong to care.

Oh, pfft. Some people are just joyless, I think! Glad to hear that you're just ignoring them, and carrying on with your love. I do admit that the Moff is pulling that "She's dead... no she isn't!" thing a little too often for my liking, but I really enjoyed it anyway. The Masters killing each other was both slightly tragic and absolutely hilarious. I will miss Missy so much.

And wasn't Bill fab!

I'm avoiding most of this post because I'm far from caught up. But Bill meeting Sappho (and Sappho meeting Bill) was perfect. <3

Thanks for the advice! <3 I'm hoping to get caught up. . .maybe next week, maybe the week after. The summer job throws a wrench into everything. I'm VERY EXCITED to see what happens with Missy, my favorite, the best worst childhood friend (who can't or WON'T stop destroying galaxies) (but damn it, the memories).

<3 Bill's so adorable and so casually luminous that I totally buy her as the catalyst for Sappho's gay awakening. <3

I absolutely adore Peter Capaldi and Twelve, and I love Bill too. Will miss both of them (will also miss dear Nardale and his snark).

Well, you know I adore the Twelfth Doctor; there's just something about Capaldi's acting of that messed-up psychological journey that speaks to me -- grabs onto me and won't let go, even.

I'm exhausted by fandom telling me that what I love is total garbage and I should question my taste, morality, intelligence, and sanity for liking it. Gonna have to take a break. Will watch the Christmas special, then am probably done with DW for a long time. After Capaldi, anyone else will just disappoint me.

"The Doctor Falls" broke my cold, cynical heart. *cue sobbing*

I'm very fond of Bill, but it feels as if she kept getting pushed aside for Nardole too often.

I ended up liking Nardole, though I couldn't stand him in "Husbands of River Song." He turned out loyal and silly and snarky. "I'm gonna name a town after you... a really rubbish one. And probably a pig." Better watch out, Doctor...

Ahh! That little Bill/Sappho piece is a delight!

Oh, I've read that fic where Missy carries on in the Doctor's place, desperately trying to live up to him, and kind of finding some peace that way. It got me crying all over again... (I do so wish she and the Doctor could've gone on that last stand, running through the forest, together, but the whole theme was living up to oneself in extremis, without witness, so of course not.)

Bwah-hah-hah, me a Tenth Doctor fangirl! *snort*

Oh! I'm saying "!!!" to myself. Someone honestly considers my Tumblring to be worthwhile? I got fed up and nearly quit, because I dared have opinions, and a snot of a Capaldi fan lectured me about how DW would survive without him, and I basically wasn't a worthy fan of his, and was terrible, then blocked me, this despite she really only ever posted Capaldi content -- but there's justice, because she apparently stormed off Tumblr in a huff recently and deleted. About half a dozen of her friends decided to block me, too. So, that's been fun.

But you find me worth it. I'm honoured. *grin*

Anyway, what got me crying so hard in TDF was the poor Doctor (because I decided to get a head start there, before Christmas) and his last stand, and Bill finding him and sobbing so hard that even her Cyberself cried. (And a chunk of fandom says Pearl Mackie can't act. She certainly can when she's given good stuff to do.) I felt regret for Missy, but didn't really cry for her until I read that fanfic.

I was delighted to have an awkward Doctor, an apparently-disinterested cyborg butler, and a lesbian companion who loved her strange alien professor friend, but had no romantic feelings toward him. See, Newvians, even modern DW can work without Doctor/companion romance. (Well, it worked for me. I'm sure S11 will have it back.)

That was also what made me cry the big ugly tears, the Doctor and then Bill finding him and just breaking down. Pearl Mackie has been fantastic this whole season; I've no idea what is in the heads of people who say she can't act! Whatev!

I *adored* this last season with Twelve and Bill. SO MUCH LOVE. Am sad now that PC is leaving (and presumably Bill, IDK since I had no spoilers about that finale).

Thanks for the recs :)

Thank you for the recs! I've been loving this past series an unhealthy amount. Even the episode I'm less fond of are still full of so much good fic-foddeer that I can't bring myself to out and out dislike them. Peter Capaldi has managed to elbows his way to the front of my favourite Doctor list. He just has so much range when he acts. I'm laughing one minute and crying the next.

The finale was so good on so many levels. It had high expectation to live up to, being the first televised meet between two Master, AND Mondasian Cybermen, AND Twelve's regeneration, AND Bill's departure, and it managed not skimp on any of it. I love how ironic and perfect it is that the Doctor usually hates himself when he meets, but still manages to save the day, while the Master really likes him/herself but they still shoot themselves in the back.

I also love that the Doctor chooses to be the Doctor every time he steps out of his TARDIS, and that anyone can make those same choices at any time. And be kind.

I loved the Sappho and Missy stories. :)

And I've adored this past series. Twelve is the Doctor I've been waiting for in the new run of DW. I cried hard for him. I don't blame him for not wanting to change. He doesn't know that Bill's okay, that Missy changed her mind. (I'd predicted she'd kill Simm, but not that he'd return the favour. That broke my heart too.)

especially in circles that are more negative about Twelve and Steven Moffat than my heart will ever be,

This is the reason I only read things about Doctor Who from people I know. I've seen people complain about his writing of women and how he only writes one type (can't remember the details, have blocked it from my brain) and I just want to shout at them to watch Press Gang. Or Coupling. But knowing he's written them will just make them prejudiced against them, so it won't work.
