Summer's over, so is my BNA subscription, so let's try a meme!

As ever with these things, anything goes from anything I know - character(s)/pairings all fine. (Not any of the characters from last time, though: Dw - Liz Shaw, Nine & Rose, Leela, Six & Evelyn, Jamie & Zoe, River Song & Romana II, The Master; Other - Justin Alastair, Harry Pearce/Ruth Evershed, Adam & Georgie, Miss Annersley & Miss Wilson, Roderick Alleyn.)

Give me a character/pairing and I will write snippets of ten different alternate universes for it. One line, ten lines, a ficlet if you're lucky.

Wild West
Coffee Shop
Fantasy/Fairy Tale
. . . In SPACE!!

(I tried to mix it up with some slightly different AUs from last time. Whether or not I will regret this soon, only time will tell, but I was getting rather fed up with Born Another Gender last time round.)

* Why should only one of the emergency services be left out?

I was nearly there with my [community profile] trope_bingo before mini-summer hit, so I'm trying to actually tidy up and post the things I wrote. Here is the first:

I've managed a few of the AU Meme ficlets so far (and a few still yet to come). I have been posting them to AO3 & of course in the comments, but in the absence of other things going on, I thought I might as well round them up here, too:

Liz Shaw )

Justin Alastair, Duke of Avon )

Nine & Rose )

Adam Adamant & Georgina Jones )

Harry Pearce/Ruth Evershed )

Leela )

Roderick Alleyn )

I have a lot of things I should be writing (and also being careful about not writing too much, self) but, what the hell, I have finished my epic Runaway Tales/Unconventional Courtship rough draft (the wretched thing is 20,000 words long) and I did manage to type up the ending of that TARDIS/Sapphire/Silver/Steel WIP, so, totally ignoring my ficathon and leftover [community profile] fandom_stocking things, here goes:

Give me a character/pairing and I will write snippets of ten different alternate universes for it. One line, ten lines, a ficlet if you're lucky.

Wild West
Coffee Shop
. . . In SPACE!!
Born Another Gender
Urban Fantasy

We'll see what happens. (If my brain collapses and what happens is no words at all, I apologise in advance.) Also, I altered the meme. I thought if I came up with one AU for 'harem' it'd be a miracle, let alone doing it several times over. And I'm never totally sure what Cyberpunk means.)

My [community profile] unconventionalcourtship fic! Which is long, obscure, and very unexciting! Amazing!

Between Strangers (8918 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Public Eye (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Frank Marker/Helen Mortimer
Characters: Frank Marker, Helen Mortimer
Additional Tags: Snowed In, Trope Subversion/Inversion, 1940s, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Pre-Series, Curtain Fic
Summary: Trying to sell encyclopedias in the middle of the worst winter of the century wasn’t the best idea to begin with. And now Frank Marker's wound up trying to rescue a single mother and her baby who’ve been abandoned at a bus stop, and all he’s got to hand is a car that won’t go and several dozen copies of The A-Z of Everything... (Beta-ed by Persiflage).

It doesn't require canon knowledge... but I can't pretend much happens. There is snow and a cute car (I provided a link at the end). And it is a fic. I can say that much for it...

(I very much hope "proper" Public Eye fans don't look at AO3 much. I would probably be strung up for writing Romance novel-inspired Frank/Mrs Mortimer, I really would.)

I am only linking this here because a) [community profile] snowflake_challenge, because maybe icons you made ages ago is cheating a bit and b) this is what I did with the future fic square for [community profile] trope_bingo. Hence I'm skipping it this time. If I'm going to write unnecessarily long and gloomy fic, at least I can do it for [community profile] hc_bingo where you'd expect this sort of thing.

Outcomes of War (5430 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Enemy at the Door (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Philip Martel & Dieter Richter, Ernst Freidel & Dieter Richter
Characters: Dieter Richter, Ernst Freidel, Philip Martel, Olive Martel
Additional Tags: War, World War II, Suicide, Execution, Starvation, Post-Series, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, 5 Times
Summary: "Whatever may be the abuse of man, that is the use of nature - first survive.” Three things that may have happened to Major Richter and two that definitely didn’t.

(This is what happens when people go and leave a TV show unfinished and I start looking at the history books for answers. I wasn't going to finish this, being far too late for the bingo, but it nagged at me. It's surprisingly unspoilery, but I can't imagine it'd have any appeal to anyone who hasn't seen the series. And limited appeal even then.)

I fear my next fic may only be better by virtue of being shorter, but after that I solemnly vow to try and write things that people might actually want to read. (Or, in short, I have a lot of 500 Prompts left... ;-D)

I said you'd soon find out why I'd been thinking about Poldark again. I have no real explanation for this fic, except that a lot of my flist were talking about idfic bingo and I thought that would probably never work out for me (for reasons), but I then also thought that my current fave random generator would give me some completely id-indulging prompts if I put a few random characters I liked in it. And it did. (It really did - I have them printed out so I can laugh at them when I'm down.) However, it also gave me "Ross Poldark - fountain of youth & contemporary AU". The series ended with Ross and Demelza having a conversation about death - Ross finds the idea of losing Demelza through death intolerable, and Demelza tells him you can't live like that, that everybody dies in the end. So... what if somehow Ross got his wish?

Of course, this should be a very exciting story, and it isn't. It goes without saying that it's not also Four Continents Ross and Demelza Had Sex In (though I'm sure they did), because I wrote it. It also doesn't really have Dwight and Caroline beyond a cameo. And historical detail is mostly provided by handwaving, rewatching the end of the series, flicking through one of the books, my vague memories and some hasty Historical dictionary checking and Googling in order to avoid both Boer Wars. (Because there is no way that would go well.) So, anyway, odd fic, but it probably genuinely is also idfic, because I didn't want them to die, either. (It's very sad when watching two people have that conversation and one of them just died in rl. Shouldn't be allowed.)

Century's End (2692 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Poldark - All Media Types, Poldark (1975)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Demelza Carne/Ross Poldark
Characters: Ross Poldark, Demelza Carne, Dwight Enys, Caroline Penvenen
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe

Some strange chance or quirk of fate grants Ross's wish that he and Demelza never be parted by death...

Also, to the best of my knowledge, the only Poldark fic out there. (There must be some hidden somewhere, mustn't there?) I probably should one day write a very silly pirate AU where Ross is a Robin Hood type pirate, Demelza is the cabin boy, Dwight the ship's doctor, George the merchant whose ships he robs (and, *cough* George would tell you that's canon, anyway), and Elizabeth would get tied to the mast a lot.
