Ganked from [personal profile] moetushie, and this time it has evolved to include a decent no. of lines instead of just one; I approve.

List the first five (or so) lines of your last 20 stories (or however many you have altogether. WIPs count). See if there are any patterns.

Meme

lost_spook: light + Ruth Evershed looking upwards (spooks - Ruth!)
Because I find myself in a fannish mood and not quite ready to write something, so, meme stolen from half a dozen people:

Give me a fandom and I'll tell you

the character I least understand
interactions I enjoyed the most
the character who scares me the most
the character who is mostly like me
hottest looks character
one thing I dislike about my fave character
one thing I like about my hated character
a quote or scene that haunts me
a death that left me indifferent
a character I wish died but didn’t
my ship that never sailed
lost_spook: (writing)
It's that time! Although other people seem to be doing a slightly different one, but that's the internet and memes for you; this one is my regular. Last year's results are here.

Guess which Yuletide fic ate all the kudos? )
lost_spook: (s&s - silver)
I'll be pimping it properly from tomorrow, but it's live as of now if anyone wants to request a card or to promote it. (I have a handy banner with coding available on the comm):

I also rather nervously awarded myself a card )
lost_spook: (I Capture - writing)
Ganked from just about everywhere, although I always find it hard to imagine anyone wanting to have me waffle on even more about my fic, but maybe actually you are burning to ask me one of these questions and now you can, hurrah.

Here is my fic at AO3 (plus on Teaspoon, if you prefer) and Runaway Tales masterlist here. (I write too much, I know, but it's still never enough.)

Choose a fic and 1 (or more) question(s) from the list below:

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
2: What scene did you first put down?
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
5: What part was hardest to write?
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
7: Where did the title come from?
8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?
11: What do you like best about this fic?
12: What do you like least about this fic?
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

(It should be said straight up that I do not have any opinions about what music you should listen to while reading my fic. I'm just ridiculously grateful that you are reading it. Srsly, meme, why would you? *sighs* One or two are definitely bizarre tumblr-fandom questions, it has to be said.)
lost_spook: (I Capture - writing)
My parents came and went (and sooner than expected! They told me they were going home Saturday and then I learned on Thursday evening they were going home in the morning! They forgot to tell me the bit where they changed their mind; honestly, what are parents coming to these days?) And now I am a little tired and probably have a bunch of other things to do (two fake shows, one mostly done, one started among various things), but hey, writing meme, plucked from the wilds of tumblr, because the other one like this worked well:

Send me two characters or more (pairing or otherwise) and a prompt number and I’ll write a ficlet:

Prompts under here )

As usual, no guarantees, but anything I know or have mentioned watching/reading/liking is fair game - I'll just say if I can't do it. (My interests and tags should be a guide.)

1. Be the First is running again: [livejournal.com profile] btfchallenge - a ficathon where people write the first fic for a fandom. (Not an exchange or anything!)

2. I have a gift for [community profile] hetswap already! Now I just have to wait for reveals with some impatience. (Well, that and sort out my assignment, of course.) *shakes present till tags fall out*

3. There is still plenty of time to sign up and leave prompts for [livejournal.com profile] dw_guestfest! It has only a 500 word minimum, and is a public service to write more good fic for DW minor characters, because it doesn't happen so much out in the wild. (There are ways to take part if you're not on LJ, too; never fear.) You don't need to sign up to leave prompts. (And don't forget to check out the current list for inspiration.) (I'm sorry to go on about it again, but this post felt wrong without a third thing, and we could certainly take more sign-ups and also prompts.)
lost_spook: (Default)
Everyone else was doing this for [community profile] onedeadplotbunny, and I thought that, since I always have a similar list of things I have to write and want to write etc., there was no point doing it for a comm. But then I thought, in that case, actually, why not do it with a comm and more people? So, even if somewhat belatedly:

List under the cut )

Via [livejournal.com profile] el_staplador, a new friend via the friending meme (*waves*), a new-to-me writing meme, and one that involves less work than usual. How could I resist?

Comment to this post with a fic title (a word, phrase or quotation), a fandom and, if desired, a character or pairing. I'll reply with a summary of the fic I won't write for that title, in this way generating plot-bunnies, gaiety of nations and perhaps even actual fic by other people.

(If coming up with titles is hard, there's always a title generator like this one, which seems pretty comprehensive in genre choice.)

For the Talking Meme, from [personal profile] st_aurafina: Do you remember the moment when you learned Doctor Who was coming back? How did you think it would go? Were your hopes/fears realised?

This is a funny one, because I never really believed Doctor Who wasn't coming back one day. Also, as I've been a fan since 1988, it's complicated.

So... The fifteen year tale of how Doctor Who was always coming back )
lost_spook: (b7 - deva)
For the Talking Meme, from [personal profile] moetushie: The one old show (or movie) that you wish everyone would watch, and why.

I don't think there's anything everyone should watch (or read, or anything), because nothing's for everyone, and most certainly not when it comes to dodgy old British TV. And if I think about this, I could say Adam Adamant Lives! because we all need something cheerful in our lives right now, or any number of other things for lots of different reasons. But if I don't stop to think and go with gut instinct there's only ever one answer out of all the things I've watched, old and new, and I still can't justify it, but that is:

Predictable answer is under the cut, being predictable )

Probably really, though, people who don't mind this kind of old telly should just all go watch Adam Adamant Lives! right now because it is the most adorable and cheerful thing about an Edwardian adventurer out of time and fighting improbable evils and then you can also all write fic, thank you, that will be lovely. (Just skip ep3 and the second half of ep 5; there are reasons why most people don't watch old telly, of course. Plenty of 'em! /o\)

If I turn to film instead, then there's also only one answer out of my old-time viewing, which is (also predictably) The Lady Vanishes (1938; directed by Alfred Hitchcock), which you'd surely have to be pretty pernickitty not to like even a little bit. Shenanigans on trains with bonus rabbits and magic tricks and battles and lady-spies and fake nuns and Margaret Lockwood, Michael Redgrave and Dame May Witty. Oh, and those two guys who only wanted to get get to the cricket match, dammit. They so did not ask for this!

(That wasn't quite in one, was it? I still managed to cheat a bit.)

Halfamoon

1 Feb 2017 05:22 pm
lost_spook: light + Ruth Evershed looking upwards (spooks - Ruth!)
1. [community profile] halfamoon | [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon is back! A two week celebration of female characters in fandom, from 1-14 Feb.

(Even though I know it's coming, I never prepare, so I'll have to see if I can still do something...)

2. First proper draft of my NYR fic is typed up! Now for [community profile] hetswap... (I have an idea at least, but it does need to be more than a scribbled idea at some point soon; the deadline's the end of the month.)

3. [livejournal.com profile] dw_guestfest will be back soon. I just want to have a breather and get some words down for [community profile] hetswap first before I open it for prompts, but I'll post there presently and try and put together a 2017 schedule for the fest.

5. [community profile] who_allsorts is still a thing! As is [livejournal.com profile] dw_allsorts! I need to go claim myself a second table, for the theme "Historical." I'm excited. I shouldn't have signed up for ten more things than I needed to, though. (Sliiight exaggeration.)

(I'm not ignoring rl events, it's just... here be fannish distractions if anyone wants them, because we all need such things, whatever they may be. Others will bring the links and do the stuff, I shall just continue to try to get well and try to bring small good things and distractions for the moment. But sometimes you do feel the need to just say that, because WTH, indeed. :-/)
lost_spook: (Default)
I went very low again over the last few days, so sorry if I have (once more) been ignoring people. I feel (hopefully) a little better again and can now go on as usual with working on being a little less ill!

Anyway, I saw the Talking Meme has been going round again and it's been a while. So, give me a topic to talk about and I promise to try and post about it sometime in the near future. (I don't do monthly dates.)

If you want to avoid things I've answered before, I have a Talking Meme Tag you can check. (By and large, asking me how I feel about lemons or brazil nuts gets short answers, I don't do many travel questions or anything I feel is too personal, otherwise have at it!) I have a bunch of new people, so it seems like a good thing to do now.

Cut for list of topics )
lost_spook: (I Capture - writing)
(I was going to do [community profile] fandom_stocking things at last, but I was feeling too rotten, so I pulled this out of my hidden posts in progress instead. I don't think anyone's getting stocking stuffers from me at this rate...)

Last year's results are here

Cut for considerable length )
lost_spook: (dw - one)
1. [community profile] fandom_stocking is open for sign ups till the 14th! (I suppose at some point, I should do a sign-up for it.)

2. And I realised that [community profile] genprompt_bingo have no deadlines and was tempted into getting a card. Bingos, always so hard to resist, look:

Quickly, in my temporary break from Yuletiding, & in the continuing spirit of creating small nice things, let's see if I can manage some ficlet-y goodness before I return to editing and treating...

Take a pairing (or two or more characters), and put them in this random generator, then post your favourite resulting prompts (as many as you wish) in a comment below and I will try to oblige you by writing at least one of them.

As the generator only uses an "/" I'll assume you meant me to ship the pairing/moresome unless you tell me otherwise, so do note if you wanted gen/platonic/whatever. (Which doesn't, of course, prevent my results turning out accidentally gen anyway, but at least I know which to aim for.)

And while I've no objection at all to crossover pairings, please none where it requires time travel if neither canon has that as an option. (I have burned out on this temporarily at least. Even for B7, there's only so many times you can claim Orac accidentally invented time travel when bored. Well, possibly not, but spare me this meme round!)

*looks round at flist hopefully*
lost_spook: (b7 - Vila)
1. I've been enjoying making icons for people (and I am still doing them, if you're still waiting, or belatedly wanting to put in a request). I also have managed to at least get my Yuletide fic into a proper first draft form, so now I hope to be a better and less absent flister again! (I shall try!)

2. And, again, in the interests of further avoiding RL and enjoying fannish chatter, a meme (stolen from all round the place): Give me a character and I'll tell you my:

First impression
Impression now
Favorite moment
Idea for a story
Unpopular opinion
Favorite relationship
Favorite headcanon

(Who knows if I even have answers for most of these for most people? Let's find out...)
lost_spook: (cat)
In the interests of keeping cheerful, I would have liked to do a writing meme, but since I am still working on the Yuletide fic that won't lie down and die, that must wait. However, there is another sort of small, nice thing I can provide - icons!

I know hardly anybody has room or as much use for them anymore, but they are a source of pretty and joy all round, so if you would like one, comment here! I can provide a pic if it's something I have screencapped already, or can easily Google image search for stock; otherwise it's best to supply me with a pic or quote to use, if you'd like a text icon. And then I shall do my best to oblige over the next few days (when I'm not hitting said fic with a big stick).

Click my icon tag below to see what my usual efforts are like. Iconses, anyone?? Um, probably best not hate-iconses, though. I would get v down before I was done. Otherwise, anything goes - I don't need to know something to do an icon request.
lost_spook: (b7 - Vila)
I stopped posting and commenting again, for most of the same reasons, and some more. Sorry - summer! (Even when it's not even hot). However, I get really funny and crawl somewhere inside myself when I don't post and comment, which is really not good, BUT now I have been reminded of a thing I can post!

It has, after all, been about 6 months since I last did the 15 Characters Meme...

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2) Ask your f-list to post questions in the comments. For example: "One, nine, and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?", "Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?", "Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?"

3) After your f-list has stopped asking questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

(Also I may try to do a What I'm Reading post. Possibly even on Wednesday (today, gosh). I did mean to do it more than once a year, but I've already failed on that point.) I hope everyone else is well. I am sorry, I didn't mean to go away and ignore you all again. It wasn't that I didn't care. Just spoons (lack of), summer, dentists (only the usual kind) and more family history.
lost_spook: (b7 - Vila)
The first two results of the conversational crossover meme. (And years may have passed since the last time I did it, but I still fail on the 'no explanations' part, but I refuse to be sorry for that!)

For [personal profile] swordznsorcery: Evy Carnahan meeting Dayna Mellanby. (Blake's 7/The Mummy):

Entombed )

And for [livejournal.com profile] liadtbunny: Georgina Jones meeting Vila. (Adam Adamant Lives!/Blake's 7).

I decided my writing gears needed a bit of a kick start and hunted out the tried and tested poetry meme. The quotes were especially random this time, but it still worked:

1: Pick five fandoms. List them in alphabetical order.

2: Visit this site to find your first RANDOM POEM OF POWER. Write down the 5th line (yes, even if it's an E.E. Cummings poem and you wind up with an apostrophe). Repeat five times and - you guessed it - list 'em in alphabetical order! (No cheating, mind! This is a challenge and it's always been about creativity.)

3: I think you can see where this is going. Write a very quick 50-word half-drabble for each fandom (try to do it all in one sitting - make your brain explode!), using the line from the poem as a prompt. You don't have to include it in the half-drabble - it's just inspiration.

4: Bravo! Have a cookie.

lost_spook: light + Ruth Evershed looking upwards (spooks - Ruth!)
It's been six years since I last did this, so let's give it a whirl & get something cheerful out of this week!

As ever for something like this, I'll take prompts from anything I know (my interests and tags will probably give you a clue, but anything else you think I might know - I'll let you know if I don't or really can't for any reason):

Give me two characters from different fandoms you know I'm familiar with, and I'll give you a dialogue happening between the two of them. Without justifying how the crossover would work, how their worlds clashed or how they could even meet each other. Just a silly crossover conversation with no backstory, for fun.
