I never can resist [community profile] hc_bingo. I mean, between free interpretation, metaphor, choosing hurt-only, hurt/comfort, comfort-only, the multitudinous means of getting a bingo and the fact there are no penalties even if you don't even post one fill in amnesty, and a year-long period of writing altogether, what's to be afraid of?

Well, save the card itself. (I look at everyone else's cards and so many of the prompts and go YES YES YES and then get mine and go: 0_o for a few hours until ideas start arriving. This one is particularly scary, I feel, but has possibilities. And, you know, it's pretty, and it's not as if h/c and apocalypses aren't likely to overlap here and there...)

My hc_bingo card )

Ideas welcome! Also I am ridiculously tempted by writing the 12,500 word 25-in-one special achievement, except I cannot imagine how that would go or how I would pull it off and survive/keep a straight face.

(I'm sorry, my DW/LJ is v frivolous and always has been and there we are).

Now that I've posted that AAL! fic and one more Runaway Tales effort today, then not only have I achieved a bingo for [community profile] trope_bingo (even if it was probably too late to actually count), I have posted my stray [community profile] hc_bingo fills over there for amnesty, and now my stray [community profile] trope_bingo fills and a bingo for [community profile] origfic_bingo!

You know what this means? I am now at liberty to destroy the world multiple times over!* (Well, and also that I probably need to write something for [community profile] genprompt_bingo and my new table for [community profile] who_allsorts at some point & both are as yet virgin fields of unfilled squares, but hey, never mind. APOCALYPSE SUMMER! Or whatever, I'm very easily distracted and I still need to write that eighteen-month overdue [community profile] fandom_stocking S&S fic, and I'd like to write some more 500 Prompts too.)

But: *\o/*

I actually have no idea what I'm doing for any of the above, though. Suggestions are always welcome, even if I may well ignore them. (Bingos are for fun and id-pursuance!) ;-p

* For [community profile] tic_tac_woe. Not really, obviously, that would be wrong.
lost_spook: (james maxwell)
I'm determined to get a line for my [community profile] trope_bingo for amnesty, and I'm so near - I just need to type a couple more things up! So, I went to my notebook and instead typed up this for [community profile] hc_bingo (for "nausea," although mostly the metaphorical kind), because I'm contrary like that.

(I had to rewatch an episode for it. Probably I shouldn't have done it quite so soon after watching the OUaT finale, because in comparison the special Christmas episode where someone has to murder their dearest friend ever felt like a Dementor in TV-form, sucking all the joy out of life. Knowing where it ends up, I have to say Manhunt is the most cynical, bleak, twisted up look at WWII I've ever seen. My experience isn't massive, but even so...)

Anyway, as I may have mentioned, Vincent, one of our Extra Specially Terrible Resistance agents has top Nazis falling over themselves to die for him, one way or another, so I wrote fic about it. Even if old telly means never knowing how to spell anyone's surnames.* Spoilers abound, though, so this will probably be read by no one ever, alas. But I feel accomplished. (I just need to write Nina/Vincent/Jimmy now for my [community profile] trope_bingo "huddling for warmth" square, because if you have a practically canon OT3 who have to hide in barns and hedges in a freezing winter, it would be ungracious not to do it, really. After I've typed up the squares that'll get me an amnesty Bingo.)

I wrote a [livejournal.com profile] runaway_tales AU (so effectively just unconnected origfic) for [community profile] unconventionalcourtship this year (written back in January) but for various reasons, I wound up never posting it for the fest. However, I discovered it fitted a [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo square ("fall from grace"), so I pulled it out again and have now further edited it, tweaked it, had it beta-ed, and finally got the ending more to my liking. I don't imagine it'll be of much interest to anyone, but here it is, nonetheless, and about time, really. (Sorry [personal profile] aralias for all my wibbling back in spring/summer! Hopefully next year will be better. But at least now I get a bingo square too...)

Title: Scandal of the Town
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Fandom: Original Work
Pairing/Characters: Julia Graves/Edward Iveson (OFC/OMC)
Rating: Teen
Length: 26,067 words (3 chapters)
Summary: Thanks to one indiscretion, Edward Iveson's life and reputation is in ruins, until Julia Graves comes to his rescue with a proposal of marriage. Edward can hardly turn her down, but what is it that Julia wants from him?

From this summary, although it went seriously off-piste (but [personal profile] aralias kindly said it could still count for the fest. I got carried away with the first line and forgot that the rest of the summary would demand pr0n neither I nor my characters are up to):

138) In the Flesh- Portia Da Costa

Victorian society already believes he’s a scarlet man. Why not become one? Edward’s reputation is in tatters. With scandalous photographs of him being scrutinized by the ton and his brother running them into debt, Edward’s only hope – a respectable marriage – is dashed. Then powerful, wealthy Julia offers an indecent proposal: for one month of hedonistic servitude she’ll pay off his brother’s debts. But nothing can prepare Edward for the worst, for discovering that he enjoys his degradation and delights in the dark fantasies that Julia has awakened. In fact, he’s fast becoming addicted to a life, and a woman, who can never wholly be his…

Forsyte Saga (BBC 1967) Fleur/Jon picspam (10 Tumblr graphics; 88 pics) for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo square "forbidden love". (And completing two possible bingos at once! \o/ Well, it can still only be one bingo, but I get to choose which one I claim. If I don't complete another possible bingo before I'm done. Ha.)

Notes: Fleur Forsyte/Jon Forsyte picspam (also some Fleur/Michael, Jon/Ann), plus Soames and Irene. Warnings for infidelity & spoilers for very old TV and literature. (Feat. Susan Hampshire, Martin Jarvis, Eric Porter, Nyree Dawn Porter, Nicholas Pennell, Anne Fernald.) It got a bit ridiculously epic, but I blame that on Susan Hampshire's face.

Also, sorry, being obscure again, but, look, a second 'impossible' bingo square completed! How could I not? (I'm still on Team Michael, though.)

I've staked my claim, you're mine )
lost_spook: (Default)
So, I finished The Forsyte Saga and, yes, it was great. More anon, I should think, if I ever have brain. In the meantime, it struck me that if I wrote Fleur/Michael fic, it would hit one of my 'impossible' bingo squares (unrequited pining). (I had completely forgotten Michael somehow, even though now I've remembered, I know that was what kept me reading all the later books - teeanged me got reluctantly hooked on Fleur/Michael & it's been an influence ever since. I just forget everything, apparently.) So, here's a ficlet, ducky. ;-D

None of this is getting my Yule-fic written, of course, but slight character vignettes don't require more of me than I've got right now & my Yule-fic would. (If I default, that'll still be my story.) /o\

I've been a little quiet this week, because my friend was up visiting for two days, which was lovely (she is also the only person I know in rl who thinks watching creaky old cult TV is fun. O, guess what we did?), but then I was extremely tired after. I'm feeling a bit better now & decided that it might be a good moment to have another go at podficcing (because I'd already got myself used to speaking more earlier in the week and recovered from it, so...).

(I have complicated feelings about podfic, which mostly wind up at NOPE. However, I used to read aloud as part of my rl job & also had to think about making stuff accessible in as many formats as possible, and am rather worried about how silent I am for most of the time these days & how much it takes out of me when I do talk for very long, so carefully monitored speaking for x length and gradually building up via fic-reading seems like a useful plan. I just have to deal with all the other NOPES but we'll get there!)

Anyway, I started with this. The podfic is very basic & probably enough to make practised podficcers shudder, but I think it is at least fully audible and that was my chief aim. But I don't think people will be queuing up to listen to obscure ficlets in podfic-form anyway! (Er. I hope!)

So yesterday I spent time that should have been spent on other things writing fic for the Espionage episode I'd just watched. It was about a spy who is accidentally forced to kidnap the ten year old daughter of the British ambassador, and then there were shenanigans and tweeness after she turned out to be smarter than he was. Naturally, instead of just shooting her halfway through when she went on about stars, he took a bullet for her. Anyway, in short, I am a terrible person as I enjoyed it more than I like to admit. I wouldn't have written fic, though, but for the last line where the British Ambassador and the guy from British Intelligence seem to think that the girl is going to help the spy escape from the hospital while stopping off there on her way back to school and they were absolutely fine with that.

Which obviously made me go and write cracky fic about that and what on earth she would grow up to be, except then it went less cracky, I made it fit a hurt/comfort bingo square, and I think I may also have committed some tweeness while I was at it. I have no excuse, sorry.

(Also, hi, any new people. This is probably about par for the course with me these days, I fear. Feel free to run away now.)

I made a Frank Marker/Helen Mortimer fanvid, Helen POV. I didn't even think that was actually possible, but apparently it is if you're me and you don't have much in the way of standards when it comes to vidding. In the middle of looking for some thoughtful, quiet old 50s song or an instrumental piece that would do, I somehow wound up with this. (I worried for a bit about whether or not it still met the prompt, but I've decided it does. I hope.)

They Don't Know About Us
Public Eye: Nobody else understands what Mrs Mortimer sees in Frank. (Frank Marker/Helen Mortimer, S4 fanvid.)

Music: They Don't Know by Kirsty MacColl

Or, in short, this is what happens in S4 according to Mrs Mortimer. Not particularly spoilery as such. Bookended with a little S6. Whether it's ironic, or horribly shippy, or just that Mrs Mortimer is right in fundamentals (and the long-term) if not the immediate outcome, I don't know.
