Some random icons and mini-sets I've made recently or found lurking on my hard drive. Margaret Lockwood, quotes, some random old TV peoples, and Once Upon A Time.

30 icons made for the [community profile] hc_bingo square "hugs". I went back through all my screen caps looking for any iconable & expressive hugs and this was the result. Given the odd things I screen cap, it's a little motley, but on the other hand it covers a whole range of hugs from 1959-2013, which is quite nice in itself, after all. (Even if I may have used a pic to icon before, these are all new for the challenge.)

But I was fishing these two pics out for Tumblr purposes & thought I'd share (again, in both cases, but it's been a while):

So there's not much going on, and I couldn't resist retrying the meme using last names. Some couples stayed together despite the odds: Evie Eliott & Eowyn, Frobisher & Gandalf, Maddy & Maid Marian, and Servalan & Seven. The results were mostly much scarier than last time, but it did throw up some things that were amusing - and one or two I want badly now:

More mayhem and scary pairings )

Meme found in the wild: Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing, etc. Treat us to some commentary once you're done.

I thought it'd be fun... I hadn't quite realised what a weird jumble of characters I have - some of them are there more for the action in the icon than the character. So, in most cases, let's say that instead of a commentary, a horrified silence might be more appropriate?

(Actually, it turned out better than I expected. For the first half of the alphabet, anyway.)

38 random pairings and an odd man out )

Excuse the spammage tonight, but I have decided that over the next few days, I will post all the uploaded but unposted icons I have. Some of them are now very old (but obviously I deleted anything I really didn't like). I kept thinking I would do more of each, but even if I do, they'll look different now, and it's getting silly.

This post contains all the non-text, non-DW ones. The text and DW will follow in due course.

Okay, so I have been tiring myself out doing various things, one of which was this! I know most of you aren't interested in Carry On films, understandably, but anyway I didn't think I could manage this before I started (I collected the clips in a sort of spirit of mild hopefulness and lack of anything better to do), but I did!

... unexpectedly spotted at the end of Carry On Nurse. I mentioned this many moons ago when I 'reviewed' the film, but could not picspam. Well, now I can, so I will.

Basically, Kenneth Connor's* character (an injured boxer) is allowed out of hospital and his wife comes to fetch him - bringing with her the little son he's been missing. So far, yada yada yada. Except it was immediately clear from the boy's reaction that it was his real son. Well, either that or he was a genius actor of a little tot. (And it was - young Jeremy Connor. I checked the internet.) So here, how nice for the Connor family that they happen to have this on film, & probably just because it was the easiest thing to do:

*(If Clocket is reading, Kenneth Connor is the one who also played Constable Constable. :-D)

The end of the Carry On Gallery icons I was trying to make quite a while back, when my computer started objecting, plus some more random quotage. (From Camel, Cowboy, Spying & Screaming. Includes Angela Douglas, Jim Dale, Barbara Windsor, Anita Harris, Harry H Corbett & Bernard Cribbins.)

I thought, since I had little brain this weekend, I'd amuse myself with making some more icons. I managed the following, but for some reason my computer decided to object in every way possible. However, icons from the DVD galleries for Carry on Follow That Camel, Doctor and Khyber can be found here.

Kenneth Williams, Jim Dale, Bernard Bresslaw, Barbara Windsor, Sid James, Hattie Jacques, Peter Butterworth, Angela Douglas, Roy Castle, Frankie Howerd, Anita Harris, Charles Hawtry, Terry Scott, Peter Gilmore & a camel. Plus Valerie Leon, Valerie van Ost and Alexandra Dane. Also, unexpected Dick Van Dyke, Penelope Keith and Tommy Cooper.

I've been making these off and on. They started off meaning to be more Press Gang, or Children's Lit and ended up totally random.

I know, why can't I do Doctor Who icons? Well, it's so easy and fun to do Carry On icons in comparison: everyone looks so cheerful, and the faces are so distinctive - literally iconic; nobody else is doing them, and the lighting and colouring is all pretty much just there. It's addictive.

Anyway, 45 Carry On Girls icons:

Brief thought )

I shall now be cheerful ... and what more cheerful than the Carry Ons (well, unless we dwell on the relatively early deaths involved, but let's not.)

Icons taken from the stills galleries for Matron, Girls, At Your Convenience, Loving and Abroad, with random trivia from my recent listening to the commentaries. (Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Bernard Breslaw, Peter Butterworth, Jacki Piper, Richard O'Callaghan, Valerie Leon, Joan Sims, Hattie Jacques, Charles Hawtrey, Patsy Rowlands, Carol Hawkins, Sally Geeson, Julian Holloway, Bill Pertwee, Geoffrey Hughes, Imogen Hassall, Robin Askwith, Madeleine Smith, Margaret Nolan, Yutte Stensgaard, Valerie Shute, Mike Grady, Terry Scott, James Beck & also Gerald Thomas, Peter Rogers and Talbot Rothwell.)

I find I've used this title for an entry before. Oh, well.

Three random things:

1. I've posted ch2 of End Game. I thought it would be nice to demonstrate that there are bad things happening and a villain sooner rather than later. (Like Stardust, the natural places I want to end the chapters would make very long postings, so I've broken them up. Ch 1-3 are all really one thing, hence ch1 being a bit lacking in anything other than Nat annoying people.)

2. [livejournal.com profile] persiflage_1 quoted Neverland where the Doctor introduces Charley to Romana. I seem to remember having a conversation where people were wary of Charley because of something like this, and I was saying, "Yes, but when they meet it's just all very DW-ish, and no need to worry..." but couldn't remember the line. Here it is: Eight: Now come on, you have to meet Romana. Romana, this is Charley, one of my best ever friends. Charley, this is Romana, one of my best friends ever.

3. How can I cheer people up? Well, I can't, but I'll have a go. Beneath the cut are links to the original UK Carry On trailers. (And I couldn't glimpse any Pertwee, but yes, there is Sergeant Hartnell)
Here lies retro comedy madness )

And that's goodnight from her... (Yes, I'd better get out of the retro British comedy mode.)

Actually, here's a fourth thing:

4. Is LJ refusing to remember tags for everyone or is it just singling me out?

Carry On The Up Khyber icons (Batch #2: The Dinner)
(I didn't make the previous ones today, I hasten to add!) I thought, as the dinner at the end of this film is probably the most famous (and funniest) set-pieces in the entire run, that I would take whatever caps I had from it and do 'straight' icons (or bases) in sequence. This is the result. (I didn't take the caps with this in mind, unfortunately, so it wasn't quite what I thought, but surprisingly pretty in places anyway...)

So, time for that well-known epic tale of the British Raj being caught with their underpants on. It could spell the end of the Empire (but that's only what Major Shorthouse thinks, and who asked him?), but there'll certainly be much tiffin, Belchers, Burpas, cunning disguises, stiff upper lips, Rank stupidity, British incompetence, and no political correctness whatsoever.

For DW fans, there's Roy Castle (film Ian) joining the regulars, Peter Butterworth in his Finest Hour, Angela Douglas as Princess Jelhi, Joan Sims, Julian Holloway (in his only Carry On role that's more than a cameo: "Oh F...udge!") and unexpected Wanda Ventham.

Did I say the Carry on Doctor post was insanity? It's nothing to this one. However, for DW fans, there is Jon Pertwee (never heard of him), Angela Douglas (aka the Brigadier's Doris, which is why a couple of these icons are labelled that way. I'm not confused with Carry on Screaming), Peter Butterworth (the Meddling Monk), also Joan Sims & Peter Gilmore.

A sort of epic post of insanity, really. I just thought that Carry On Doctor would be fun to practice icon-making with... two or so weeks later, and 188 icons down the line, here's a post. Um. Yes. It's not my favourite of the series by a long chalk, but definitely iconic in all senses of the word.

For the DW majority here: icons of Peter Butterworth (the Monk), Bernard Bresslaw (what an Ice Warrior looks like underneath), Joan Sims (Katryca), Julian Holloway (Survival) and Peter Gilmore (Frontios). Also Peter Jones (the voice of the Hitchhiker's Guide). But mainly the usual suspects.

I still have an issue with the basic quality of the images (causes: Me? Software? One or the other, since any image has the same problem, regardless.) However, I think I managed some prettiness.

If anyone does want any, go ahead. Any comments are much appreciated. As is obvious, I'm all new to icon-making.

A batch from Carry On Spying. I think I'm improving, but I'm still jealous of people who can do these things properly. Anyway, apologies for the serious lack of Charles Hawtrey - I took these screen caps with other things in mind. On the DW-related front, there are a few of Bernard Cribbins (aka Wilf).

I'm doing this the wrong way round. Last weekend, I didn't get much chance to watch more B7, but I did pick up this in a charity shop. I wasn't going to get this one, because of the A-Level media studies project I did. (Long story; let's just say the amount of times I ended up watching Shirley Eaton say "Relax, Mr York." put me off her and the film.

So what's all this about daffodils? )

RL has caught up with me with a vengeance, but I'll catch up with some reviews of things what I been watching lately.

I completely forgot about posting the Carry On reviews for the last 3 films I found. I'm sure you must have been devastated. (In fact I'm not sure I have since I got lots of new friends. Erm. Don't run away. Just don't read...)

That'll come in useful in case my legs ever split up and stop talking to one another )

BTW, since I last did this, Peter Rogers has died, so I think that means the Carry Ons finally are at an end. (Thankfully, really, but still.)
lost_spook: (Cabby)

Since I did find quite a few of the films a while back, here are the rest of my waffly reviews.  (And before people wonder why I've got the little sanity I have left to me, these were watched over the last 3 or so weeks, not just today or something!)

New friends, well, you remember I said I was slightly mad...  Here be proof.

I did promise this a while back - just a few.  (Sorry, the quality isn't great on some of them.  My technical skills are developing slowly!)
