Day 2: In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

1. I haven't really explored it properly yet, but [community profile] allbingo is new and looks really useful and fun - you can get bingo cards of your own any time, or use it as a place to still post from previous cards though the official bingo's expired.

2. [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush! It's a fic_rush weekend starting midnight GMT tonight, and how can I not mention it when answering this? Fic_rush is a 48 hour bid for galactic domination writing challenge, or more accurately support group. But it's very open, friendly, and it doesn't matter which fandom you're in (or none). If you ever need a place to set yourself targets, grumble about not writing/writing too much, claim icons/tv watching/laundry etc. etc. are totally writing achievements in some way and share some online fun and nonsense, fic_rush is a good place to be. And it's absolutely fine to turn up for five minutes to write five words, or to take part all weekend and finish your epic WIP. (Ninja penguins, alien fish, glowsticks, bonsai giraffes and writerly pasta are entirely optional.)

3. Bit predictable, but I can't do without Archive of Our Own these days. I like that I can post things for any fanworks and don't have to wait for anybody else to make the fandom/character/relationship tags, the way you can just click on the tags for browsing, the searchability, the nifty share feature, and the fact that it doesn't drive me crazy the way ff.net did, the one time I used it to post three fics. (It ate my scene breaks, it didn't cater to obscure fandoms and it was soooo fiddly to upload and I'm still not sure whether editing is possible. And now I don't have to care, thank goodness.) And I do very much like being a wrangler, so I'm biased of late, but I was in love already before I went that far. Also amusing tags are amusing. (I still think Teaspoon is the prettiest archive I've used, though. But it won't do for anything that's not Doctor Who, so... one needs an Archive of Our Own.)

I felt much better yesterday, I should mention since I was moaning again the other day. And I did say I had some finished fic nearly ready to post - here's one of them.

Lights and Deflections (4527 words) by lost_spook
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sapphire and Steel
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Silver/Steel
Characters: Steel (Sapphire and Steel), Silver (Sapphire and Steel)
Additional Tags: Trust Issues, Trope Bingo Round 2, Community: hc_bingo, Telepathy, Elemental Weirdness
Summary: Steel sees this as a means to an end, Silver as the path to a beginning. It’s a little more complicated than it ought to be.

For [community profile] hc_bingo square “Trust issues” & [community profile] trope_bingo square “rivals to lovers”. And I think I did what I wanted to do, so you should be safe from any more Silver/Steel from me in the near future. (Although sentences like that are just tempting fate, really, aren't they?) Also, even though I said I didn't mind about bingos - I wonder how many squares it's logistically possible to fill without achieving a bingo, because I seem to be aiming at finding out...

It's also [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush this weekend, so a good time for getting on with finishing and posting fic. (Everyone's welcome to pop in and join us for some encouragement and galactic domination by means of ninja penguins.) :-)
lost_spook: (HoE - Jack & Bea blue)
I'll catch up with the my flist presently. Meanwhile, I keep getting distracted by, appointments, things I'm supposed to be doing, things I'm not supposed to be doing, Middle Earth generally (there was in-character Faramir!!) and also random LJ discussions that happen and suddenly there's this:

[livejournal.com profile] house_of_eliott!

Yes, there is now an LJ comm for The House of Eliott that I am accidentally half responsible for. I'm going to pimp it where I can presently, but I know there are a couple of people on my flist who also have at least a passing interest. The theory is, if we all gang up together, by sheer mass we will induce Bea/Jack fic into existence. Or something. Possibly there may also be discussions, graphics and the usual LJ shenanigans.

Currently up to start us off is a discussion post on that controversial ending of S3!

Please join if you wish, and pass on the info to any person or comm who might be interested & we'll gather all HoE fans lurking about there into one merry fold.

If you don't know HoE but might be on board for stuff about 1920s fashion houses or Stella Gonet and Louise Lombard, then you're welcome, too.

Also, on a separate note - [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush is this weekend! (Now where did I put my ninja penguins and my pen and notepad?)
lost_spook: (S&S - Sapphire & Steel 2)
Yes, I made it. (And have solved my problem in the short-term, although not the 'what do I do if it happens again?' So I'd still be interested in any possible ways around it. But thank you [livejournal.com profile] justice_turtle!)

I'm quite pleased with this & I hope other people like it, too? It's my show tribute, or maybe just Elements and the strangeness of their being, or something.

I came across the song at the same time as I watched the show and they fused together in my head (I mean "Time dancers whirling past/ I gaze through the looking glass" and "Sacred geometry/ Where movement is poetry"?). Thanks to fanvidding, I can attempt to share that fusion, even if the world would rather I didn't.

Spoiler warning: clips from 5 out of the six assignments. Significant images used, but OTOH, you won't be able to tell what's going on unless you know. And even then...

(ETA: Deleted the embed because it wasn't playing at the proper speed.)

Also, very importantly, it is [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush this weekend! Don't forget to join in; the more the merrier! For anyone new round here, or new-ish, [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush is a comm where we all try to write as much as possible during 48 hours. (But obviously, we don't write for all 48 hours each. And 'as much as possible' can be any no of words from 1 to 10,000 and of any sort of writing. Also you can come and cheer other people on. Or just bring a penguin and cause trouble, not that I would ever do that.)

It's [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush! (And all right, I realise that it's been going on for 20 hours already, but I was distracted.)

So, just a reminder for those not already over there writing/cheerleading/procrastinating/fighting ninja penguins/drinking coffee, that you should be heading in that direction now.

In other news, I broke my glasses/my glasses broke (am waiting for new pair and not liking being reduced back to my c.2004 pair I never liked much anyway. Because I broke the previous pair as well, yes).

But I did not let this stop me making another fanvid from the Carry On clips you will be dismayed to hear. It is this: Even the Bad Times Are Good. A general tribute/montage, but I like to think of it as my entry for the Most Cheerful Fanvid Ever competition. (If there were such a thing.) Feel free to see what you think; I hope it makes people smile.

[livejournal.com profile] naarmamo continues to be interesting and fun, and I am all admiration at other people's art. In the course of trying to experiment, I have been learning about brushes on my image programme and can now make icons that have sparkly bits on. The next step will be restraining myself from putting sparkly bits on every icon... (I'll hopefully do an update post tomorrow).

... it's [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush this weekend! If you want to join the madness and mutual encouragement to get writing (anything!) then better pop over there now.
