1. [community profile] fic_corner is still taking nominations, for those who are interested!

2. A couple of months ago, I tried to rec a B5 vid, All Is Not Lost, but the link had died - but the vidder kindly let me know that it's now back, so let me attempt to rec it again (probably a repeat rec anyway, but always worthwhile) - see here.

3. Another vid which I just saw this morning: an amazing Minerva McGonagall vid.

(I feel like there have been more things I meant to link to lately, but that is all for now.)

1. Peter Sallis has died. He was 96, of course, so he'd had a very good innings, but still. *salutes* Obviously, he was ubiquitous as Clegg and as Wallace, but since I started delving into old telly, he will also forever be The Man Who Didn't Eat Sweets in a Public Eye episode I have watched more than most.

2. [community profile] fic_corner is running again! It's an exchange for children's & YA lit and is usually good fun. There's a brainstorming post open and nominations will begin soon. (I don't know if I'll be able to do it, because summer, but I think it's relevant to some people's interests.)

3. While I'm talking about comms, I'm not sure I ever gave [community profile] hidden_passages a quick pimp - it's a general comm for all things Gothic fiction related, run by [personal profile] calliopes_pen. (I think I was pimping my own comms such a lot once I moved them over that I got too exhausted. I meant to mention a few other good Dreamwidth comms, whether new, old, or recently moved, but I forgot.)

4. I have ordered the 1970s TV series Thriller with my b'day voucher. I don't know whether that was the best choice or not, but I will at least now have a proper screencap-able copy of my very own of the episode where James Maxwell and Julian Glover move into together and bury girls in the back garden and that is the important thing. (I think Suzanne Neve and Gemma Jones may be in other episodes, too.) Gif )

Fic Corner

[community profile] fic_corner | [livejournal.com profile] fic_corner, the exchange for YA/children's lit fandoms is running again, and nominations are currently open for it on AO3!

I doubt I'll be able to play again, but it's a lovely exchange to take part in. ♥

Still feeling grumpy (and still unable to manage being a pirate and thus still have no OUaT. *pines and sulks*).

However, fannish things!

[livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon is taking votes for fandoms to include in a multi-fandom apocalyptic exchange.

[community profile] fic_corner (the exchange for any children's literature) is in its nominations stage. It was lovely last year.

(I'm still trying to stay strong and not sign up for anything till Yuletide, but... some things are tempting!)

[personal profile] john_amend_all has made an [community profile] unconventionalcourtship random generator. (The Mills & Boon summary ficathon). The resulting crack is pretty amazing... ETA: Because, hey, the link might help, yes? *is very tired*

Some examples under here )

Also, fills have continued to come in for the Obscure & British fest, so it's well worth checking out the Masterpost. (There's even the moving tale of love between two footnotes, as well as other terribly shiny things. <3)

Here's the fic I wrote for [community profile] fic_corner. I was waiting to post it because I started finally typing up the original treat I was going to write for someone, but it is still not quite working out. That's about two months of it not quite working out now, so I shall just have to bury it until one day it resurrects itself as something (as stories often do) - and get on and post my fics and some recs for very shiny fics from the collection:

I defaulted early on, but I wrote two treats, one in the short treat collection, one in the main:

Two fics in Enid Blyton (Adventure Series) and Journey To The River Sea )

And now, recs! I have to say, from what I have seen, it looks as though there is a very high percentage of exceptional fic, so I'd recommend poking around to see what childhood favourites you might find in the 100+ fandoms. However, here is a selection from those I know and read (mostly in the first half of the alphabet, because I'm incurably alphabetical and don't have that much reading stamina).

Recs at Fic Corner )

The YA/Children's Book fanfic exchange The Exchange at Fic Corner is live! I have barely poked about in it yet, but everything I have so much as looked at seems excellent, so you should go and have a read if you like any of the 100+ children's books & series that have been written for. (Chalet School, Narnia, Harry Potter, Diana Wynne Jones and many more!)

I'm just recovering from the shock of it not being anonymous (I don't pay enough attention to stuff), as I was so low about everything, I wouldn't have written any treats if I'd realised, and so had a shaky moment on seeing everything all out in the open already. (Anonymity feels so much safer right now.) However, I've recovered a bit now and am sure soon I'll have more recs. In the meantime, I have this very awesome fic written for me in Midnight Is A Place! I don't think it requires much knowledge of the source to enjoy, either. It has music and storytelling and Anna-Marie's complicated plan involving frogs, and feels very right for an Aiken fic, so it's wonderful:

The Curse of the Blue-Eyed Tiger (2707 words) by vanillafluffy
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Midnight Is a Place - Joan Aiken
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Anna-Marie Murgatroyd, Lucas Bell, Julian Oakapple
Additional Tags: Found Family

Anna-Marie's new friend stirs up unhappy memories for Lucas.

So, that is a thing that was well worth the wait. (I've known I had a MiaP fic since last weekend and it has been very hard being patient and counting down the days through a rather miserable week.)

Dear Fic Corner Scribbler,

Welcome! If you're here, given what I've requested, I like you already. Write me something for one of the below books and you can't go wrong, basically. I'm very excited about the idea of fic for any of them - I think only one of them has any fic in existence.

More details follow, but I am a great believer in the story that you want to tell being the one that's going to be the most compelling to read, so please, write that. In fact, for 4 out of 6 of these requests, what I want most of all is just to see what you would write in these worlds.

I tend not to read explicit fic as a rule, and especially for some of these, but whatever you feel the story needs, really. I don't need for everything to be angsty, neither do I want a forced happy ending. And I'm sure you'd never character-bash, my other main dislike - I tend to enjoy all the characters in my fandoms!

(If you want to know more about my fic likes/dislikes etc. my last Yuletide letter is here, in which I waffled far too much about such things.)

Likes etc and request details )

It's like someone made a fic exchange especially for me (and I probably won't even be able to play). But I know lots of you like plenty of YA/children's books, so go here and find out more - and have some fun brainstorming over the nominations!
