And now, the end of the housework meme! (Phew. That was a long meme.)

3. Press Gang – Lynda Day/Spike Thomson: getting an oil change for the car. From [livejournal.com profile] lolmac (All ages, 540 words) Who specified there was to be no vehicle substitution. I managed this, even though I’m pretty sure neither of the characters would have a valid UK driving license, let alone a car.

Lynda, you can't drive )

14. Spooks – Ruth/Harry: hoovering the curtains. From [livejournal.com profile] daibhid_c

I tried writing this, and I worked out that they were hoovering the curtains (probably in a safe house) as an excuse to keep an eye on what was happening outside, and that it was Ruth’s idea. But I couldn’t come up with anything non-dull beyond that. The best I managed was a conversation about hoovering the curtains vs washing them, and that point I decided it was better for everyone's sakes if I didn't attempt actually writing it. (Sorry. I think maybe I need to rewatch some Spooks, when I can. Ruth and Harry are kind of elusive.)

19. Doctor Who – Ben Jackson/Polly Wright: changing nappies. (599 words) From [livejournal.com profile] belantana (Who said that the baby didn’t have to be theirs, in fact, the unlikelier, the better. So, it was pretty unlikely. It's not terribly good, though, really, this one, but meme!fic. And I have prompts now. Prompts are cool.)

Story: The Rime on the Spray
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating: All ages / PG
Word Count: WIP
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly
Warnings: None.

Summary: Out on a wintry moor, the TARDIS crew encounter a lone traveller and a mysterious tower.

While not truthfully written for [livejournal.com profile] stellastars's birthday (I actually wrote pretty much all of the longhand version in late November, after the first hard frost, which seems amusing now), the thought that fic involving Ben and Polly might be a nice offering did make me join in the latest round of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush and finish Part One last night. :-D

Currently still waiting approval on Teaspoon, so be patient.

I don't know if you remember my musings on the DW Random Pairing Generator. Well, I managed the day after to write the Polly / Andred / hate one, so it can be done.

It's called Monumental Incident.

(As a bonus, I reposted with slight alterations my Mel / Movie Master / forced marriage one.)

Neither of them would actually count as romantic, but I think not-quite-gen-if-you-squint was achieved.

I found a Ben/Polly fic languishing without any reviews. We can't have that! Especially when it's as nice as this one is.

Uncertainty by mithrel. (All Ages; 2401 words; Two, Ben, Polly, Jamie).

Ben is trying to work things out (including how to make a proposal when there's never a moment's peace from alien monsters). It's really quite sweet (and I like the Doctor's solution early on of paying Ben 'danger money' for War Machines, Daleks, Cybermen...). And the alien ring showing up Ben's true worth.

I did warn you, didn't I? (Not yet up on Teaspoon, but in time...) Edit And now it's been approved, for all the world to see.

Title Five Times Polly Patched Up Ben (And One Time Ben Got To Do The Honours)
author [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook
Rating All ages
Characters Second Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly, Jamie McCrimmon
Summary In which Ben gets injured by everything from Cybermen to TARDIS appliances. Luckily for him, Polly's always there to pick up the pieces. More or less, anyway. (Being an unashamedly Ben/Polly fic, of course).

Written to cheer myself up on a rainy morning last week and because I don't seem to be any nearer to writing anything sensible with Ben and Polly in it and there really can't be enough fic with the two of them in for my liking. It's bad enough that so many of their episodes are missing.

I met them first through novelisations and PDAs and so on, all of which coyly suggested that just possibly, maybe, Ben might like Polly and vice versa. Finally getting to watch The War Machines and discovering there was nothing coy or maybe about it amused me no end. (Although possibly not as much as Polly in The Power of the Daleks when she harangues her kidnapper for threatening a helpless female and tells him he wouldn't be so brave if he was facing "a real man - like Ben!" Mind you, Ben's worrying that Polly only wants a bit of rough to mess about with is also... Is this still Doctor Who? How can you not love them?)

1. I've been a bit quiet on the fic front, having been tired lately (and stories go too flat, so I had to leave them all waiting once I'd done the [livejournal.com profile] tardis_gen one). However, talking of [livejournal.com profile] tardis_gen, I notice that they've posted the first two stories - yay! - and nice pieces of work they are, too, If the rest are as good this is going to be an excellent ficathon.

2. I hadn't forgotten StarCrossed and it's now got a lot more links on it and looks at least a little less random. And then I thought of another, similar idea, but I'll let you in on that when I've actually put something sensible on it. (Yes, mad librarian trying to catalogue things again, I know.)

3. In the process of this I had an idea for an Angel crossover of my own. (I do rather love Angel). And then, today, when I finally was able to write again, what did I do? My 1851 story, the Hex/Martha one, said Angel crossover or the next Happy Ending? No, I decided to do a Polly/Brig bit for [livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000; but it did what all my attempts for that cause do, and went long and gen. It's here, or will be when it gets okayed on Teaspoon. (It's called The Polly Effect. I went on a train today. I pretty much always end up with a fic idea after going on a train.)

Edit: And, and, and, someone just reviewed my Really Obscure piece of fanfic.  I stuck it on ff.net about three weeks ago, since it might as well sit there (in the British Comedy section, On The Up, not being counted as a show) and someone else who watched the show has just given it love.  *dances for joy* (Not that I didn't really appreciate your reading it, too [livejournal.com profile] bugiarda!!)
